Curriculum Intent
The intent of the OCR A-level Law course is to develop students' understanding of the English legal system, key areas of substantive law, and the principles undermining legal reasoning and justice. The course aims to encourage learners to think critically about the law, its role in society, and the impact of legislation, judicial decisions, and legal institutions on individuals and communities.
Through studying law, students will develop skills in analysis, evaluation, research and structured argument, applying legal knowledge to case studies, real-life scenarios, and contemporary issues. The course fosters a rigorous, evidence-based approach to problem-solving, as well as an appreciation of ethical, moral and social considerations within the legal system.
OCR A-level Law also prepares students for progression to higher education or careers in law, criminal justice, public services, and related professional fields. Ultimately, the intent is to cultivate informed, reflective, and responsible individuals who can critically engage with legal concepts, understand the complexities of justice, and participate thoughtfully in society.
